Absolutely Kevin, the city building professions are on a long detour from building livable places. It doesn’t seem like our existing institutions can change course. It’s time to build new things.
It’s always fascinating to watch the discourse on brutalism. A brutalist building will be proposed for demolition, with most folks saying “good riddance!” and then architecture associations coming out of the woodwork to decry the destruction of an “architectural treasure.”
Sometimes it feels like some architecture firms have forgotten that you’re allowed to design new buildings that look like the old buildings that people love so much!
